Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) works to safely reduce the risk to the community and the environment of radioactive liquid waste stored in aging waste tanks at the Savannah River Site, located in Aiken, South Carolina.
I had the opportunity to work as a communications summer intern for SRMC from early May through the end of July. My role involved a wide range of responsibilities in internal and external communications. Key tasks include writing and editing internal communications such as company announcements an safety messages, crafting human interest stories, and composing news releases for SRMC publications. Externally, my duties involved writing press releases, feature articles, and planning "evergreen" social media posts.
This position allowed me to engage in executive communications, and allowed me to network and grow my professional development.
Below is a selection of my new releases featured in the Savannah River Mission Completion website.
Aside from the SRMC website, some of my articles were submitted and featured in the Aiken Standard newspaper.
During my internship, I had the opportunity to ghost write two messages from the President of the company, Thomas Burns Jr. - one being a farewell message to the summer interns, and the other introducing SRMC's involvement in the annual United Way fundraising campaign.
